The Faculty of Law, Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZGU Faculty of Law) is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, which has played a leading role in economic development in the country. Conveniently located south to Shanghai, Hangzhou is also famous for its unique natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The predecessor of the ZGU Faculty of Law, namely, the Department of Law of Hangzhou University of Commerce, was established in 1994 and began to train law students at undergraduate level, thus making it the second university to enroll law students in this Province. The HUC Department of Law mergered with Zhejiang Province College of Politics and Law in 2001 and was renamed the Faculty of Law. It thus gained its new title as the Faculty of Law, Zhejiang Gongshang University when the University took its current name. The ZGU Faculty of Law has 72 teaching staff and 9 managerial staff members. Among the academic staff are 10 professors and 26 associate professors. Among all the law schools and departments based in Zhejiang Province, the ZGU Faculty of Law is the largest in terms of number of faculty members. It is certainly a major institution for legal education and legal scholarship. There are currently 1,201 undergraduate and some 60 post-graduate students in the Faculty of Law. The ZGU Faculty of Law is characterized by its pursuit for academic excellence in both teaching and research. The ZGU Faculty of Law is doing particularly well in international law, civil and commercial law, procedural law and economic law, and privileged to offer master’s programs in the above four disciplines. The staff has produced more than 70 books and textbooks, approximately 300 articles in leading international and domestic journals such as Journal of International Economic Law, International and Comparative Law Quarterly, Cass Journal of Law and China Legal Science, some 40 State- or Province-sponsored research projects have been undertaken or finished. ZGU Faculty of Law attaches great importance to academic exchanges with other scholars from home and abroad. It hosts various academic visitations, and conducts regular and irregular academic seminars and lectures. ZGU Faculty of Law has established close academic links with various institutions of higher learning in such countries and regions as the United States, Germany, Singapore, Canada, Hong Kong, etc. The Faculty is active in taking part in public affairs, serving for the cause of economic and social development in the region. Seven professors are thereby appointed as Expert Consultants on Legislative Affairs of Zhejiang Province. Program Discription
Part 1: LL.B Program
Purposes: This program is aimed at providing students with the legal training which is indispensable for a future career in legislative, administrative, judicial, arbitral institutions, legal service organizations as well as businesses. The program is designed to help students learn to work hard, think critically and creatively, and communicate clearly and persuasively--core skills that will serve them. 1. Master's Program in Civil and Commercial Law
This Program takes civil law as well as commercial law as its subject matters, which falls into four disciplines, i.e., commercial law, international business law, intellectual property law and civil law. Students admitted to the Program may choose one of the four disciplines as his/her research area. The overall aim of this Program is to broaden students' horizons intellectually, to enhance their awareness of existing and emerging issues in civil and commercial law in China, and to prepare them with applied knowledge, skills and capabilities as prospective law professionals. The Program consists of three sub-programs, i.e., Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Procedure Law and Administrative Procedure Law respectively. Students admitted to the Program shall be admitted to one of the three sub-programs.
